WHY YOU SHOULD ATTEND SATURDAY’S RENEW BOSTON WORKSHOP

By October 20, 2019 No Comments

Every now and then we have these small moments that remind us why we love our job at Renew Boston.

One of those moments occurred last weekend after a phone call from our new friend, Catherine. She was eager to share that Renew Boston’s program personally assisted her by knocking $25 off her monthly electric bill. In other words — over $200 this year (and years to come) is now back in her pocket! Just in time for the holidays, too.

Earlier this year, Catherine called us and inquired about scheduling a free home energy visit so that she could explore energy-saving opportunities in her home. Within a few days, she was getting power strips, low flow showerheads, LED light bulbs, and a programmable thermostat installed in her home. The best part? The visit and all the installations were 100% free of charge, and immediately reduced her monthly bill.

Pleased yet interested in more savings, Catherine expressed a common concern over high heating costs for the upcoming winter. After talking with Lourdes Lopez, the Renew Boston Community Outreach Manager, Catherine learned that we also offer homeowners and renters massive discounts on insulation (homeowners can read more here and renters can find out more here). Now, Catherine doesn’t need to crank the heating system in the winter because her house can trap the heat inside.

While many would be satisfied with these savings, Catherine caught what we call the “energy efficiency bug.” With the Renew Boston team by her side the whole way, Catherine was able to replace her heating system with another rebate offered through Mass Save. She even went on to install solar panels on her home!

Catherine isn’t the only Bostonian who has connected with Renew Boston to dramatically decrease her home energy usage and save money. In fact, more than 40,000 Boston residents have saved money by improving their energy efficiency through our program. Not only will you save money, but you will help Boston meet our commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 25% by 2020. Because of our program’s success, we are on track to reaching that goal, but your participation is critical to making that happen.

Want to hear more about Catherine’s story and how Renew Boston can help you do the same? Come to Renew Boston’s workshop at St. Mark’s Church in Dorchester on Saturday, December 3rd from 10:00am-11:30am. We will discuss how you can sign up for a free home energy visit and receive the same discounts as Catherine. We would love to help you save energy and save you money as well!
