WHAT COULD BE WORSE THAN A SNOWY FORECAST? A RAINY ONE

By October 19, 2019 No Comments

Well, in terms of flooding at least. Snow and ice can block Boston’s catch basins, leaving snow-melt and rain with no where to go. Clearing snow, ice, and trash from catch basins or storm drains helps prevent our streets from flooding and our waterways free of pollutants.

Catch basins help capture “floatables” such as plastic bags and bottles, and heavy sediments, like sand, from being dumped in the harbor. Be a steward of your neighborhood and environment by helping clear out your local catch basin. Here’s how to find one near you:

  1. Enter your address in the upper right corner then select it from the dropdown.
  2. Use the plus and minus buttons in the upper left corner to zoom in and out.
  3. Pan the map by holding down the left mouse button and dragging.
  4. Catch basins and hydrants appear as icons on the street selected.
