What do a 2013 Boston Marathon medal, a David Ortiz bobble head, an empty Mike’s Pastry box, and a Greenovate Boston pin have in common? They’ll all be viewed by Bostonians in 2114!

In September, the Lion and Unicorn on top of the Old State House were taken down for cleaning, when workers found a time capsule from 1901 inside the Lion’s Head. In addition to replicating the old time capsule, a group of historians, preservationists, and community groups took public suggestions about what to put in the new time capsule.

Last month we asked for your thoughts on what we should suggest to the 2014 time capsule. The only requirements were that the item needed to fit in the palm of the hand and represent Boston’s sustainability issues today. After three weeks and great feedback from the community–the suggestions included an apple seed and alien hieroglyphs –we decided to submit a Greenovate Boston pin and a few select “letters to the future” that were written at the 2014 Greenovate Summit.

The items and Lion statue are scheduled to return to their home on top of the Old State House this Sunday morning. You can find the complete list of the time capsule contents here.
