Boston’s bike share service Hubway just added a one-of-a-kind “Unicorn Bike” to its fleet – and its design pays tribute to Greenovate Boston!
Greenovate works to engage all Bostonians in helping to meet the City’s sustainability goals and in fostering healthy neighborhoods. Transportation is a major aspect of the City’s Climate Action Plan, and Greenovate works to provide Bostonians with the resources to reduce their transportation footprint by doing things like taking public transit, maximizing personal vehicle efficiency, and commuting by bicycle.
Biking is a great way to save energy, stay fit, and get to see your city in a new way. In addition to the money you’ll save on gas, there are several other financial incentives available for bikers through employers, government entities, and retailers.
Since its creation in 2011, Hubway has grown to give users access to over 1,600 bikes at over 160 stations citywide. Hubway is operated by Motivate, which runs other major urban bike share systems like CitiBike in New York City and Capital Bikeshare in Washington, DC. It is owned by the government of Boston (as well as Cambridge, Somerville, and Brookline), and has played a role in the Boston’s municipal climate goals. The Greenovate Unicorn bike celebrates this ongoing relationship.
So be on the lookout for the Greenovate Boston Unicorn bike at Hubway stations and on the street. All month we’ll be posting a series of challenges inviting all Greenovators to spot the Unicorn bike, post photos on Facebook and Twitter, and join the conversation about incorporating sustainability into everyday life.
