July 28th marked Hubway bike share program’s fifth birthday. There was a series of celebrations at stations in and around Boston, culminating in a kick-off party for its sixth year at Fenway Park. The birthday celebrations may have drawn to a close, but there are lots of ways to enjoy Hubway all year ‘round – from trying out new scenic routes to joining group rides to seeing if you qualify for a low-income membership. Here are some fun ways to get involved with Boston’s bike share program!

  1. Choose a membership plan. Options range from a few hours to a year!

  2. Make sure you’re riding safely and respecting the rules of the road.

  3. Check out the Bicycle Benefits map to see all of the local business in Boston, Brookline, Cambridge and Somerville where Hubway members receive perks.

  4. Stay up-to-date with all Hubway news on their blog.

  5. Learn how Hubway seeks community input to help them decide where to install new stations – like they did in Dorchester and Roxbury!

  6. Try out some of the route ideas on Hubway’s new website;  the routes are fun, scenic, and some are even car-free!

  7. Download the Spotcycle mobile app, which helps you find Hubway stations and bikes.

  8. See if you qualify for a low-income Hubway membership to ride for just $5 per year. Your membership will include a helmet, a bicycle benefits sticker, and unlimited 1-hour trips.

  9. Get the lay of the land using the Hubway system map – it shows the location of all 160 stations – and how many bikes are available at each. You can even suggest a new station location!

  10. Find out about special events, and sign-up for classes and group rides on the Hubway events calendar.
