We are very excited to present two inspiring locals as the 2015 Greenovate Boston Community Summit Keynote Speakers–Dean Cycon of Dean’s Beans, and Andy Brooks of Bootstrap Compost.

This year’s Community Summit focuses on how we can come together to implement Boston’s Climate Action Plan. We hope our keynote speakers’ stories will inspire you to commit to sustainable actions at home, at work, and in your community.

Dean Cycon, Founder of Dean’s Beans

Lawyer-turned-entrepreneur Dean is a 2013 Oslo Business for Peace Honoree (known as the “Nobel Prize for Business”) and founder of Dean’s Beans a local, organic, fair trade coffee company. For over two decades, Dean’s Beans has worked to use the production of high quality coffee as a vehicle for progressive change.

In addition to paying a premium price for coffee, which allows farmers to live sustainably, Dean’s Beans conducts direct activism in each coffee community. The company works with communities to identify roadblocks to development, and then establishes programs to meet their goals. Dean’s Bean’s currently works with thousands of farmers all across the world.

Andy Brooks, Founder of Bootstrap Compost

Andy is founder of Bootstrap Compost, a year-round residential and commercial food scrap pick-up service in the Greater Boston area. Bootstrap partners with local farms to divert thousands of pounds of waste from landfill each year.

What started out in 2011 as nothing more than a bucket, a hand truck, and an idea for good has grown to service over 1,100 clients in the Greater Boston area. The philosophy of Bootstrap is simple: To give local residents a means to harness the power of organic scraps; to give back to the community what Bootstrap borrows from the community; to have fun; to enjoy work.
