A little known fact about me – I was once a deputy park ranger for the Greater Worcester Land Trust. And no that doesn’t mean I was trekking through Crow Hill or Green Hill Park in a green ranger hat. Rather, I volunteered a few hours per week charting conservation easements in Excel and learning the significance of land preservation by meeting local land-lovers.
Fast forward a few years, and I was living in Washington, D.C. with a degree in Journalism, collecting news clips for an environmental and energy policy publication on the Hill. After a humid summer consumed by the passage of the Waxman-Markey bill, I learned that the day-to-day grind of reporting and deadlines was not for me. I quickly jumped ship and landed back in the nonprofit sector, first at The Wilderness Society and later at the Natural Resources Defense Council. (Seeing a general theme emerge yet?)
Eventually, I moved back to Massachusetts and began working for a digital consulting agency in Somerville where I provided strategic guidance to clients mostly in the nonprofit sector. I was fortunate enough to work with amazing groups like the National Audubon Society and Sierra Club, which kept me plugged into the environmental movement in a really positive way.
But what I had been missing most was feeling the community impact — the conversations with local land-lovers, bike enthusiasts, community gardeners, energy-saving ninjas, and really anyone who cared about the future of the Earth. So when I saw the opportunity to work for the City of Boston and do all those great things again in a City close to home and heart, I went for it.
Today I’m lucky enough to be a part of a team of amazing Greenovators, like Jessica Feldish, who are helping to foster a community-driven movement to get all Bostonians involved in the Boston’s climate and sustainability goals. Together, we’re working with partners and individuals — just like you — to build a greener, healthier, and more prosperous city.
