NEW TEAM INTRODUCTIONS – JEFF VAZ

What luck on my end! I could not imagine a better time to get involved with Greenovate and Renew Boston.

Not only is climate change at the forefront of nearly every environmental, economic, social, and political debate, but the City of Boston continues to lead our nation in climate action by making the issue a focal point in the City’s master plan for our collective future – Imagine Boston 2030. I am both honored and excited to contribute to our City’s success as the Renew Boston Outreach Fellow.

My name is Jeff Vaz, and I am from Arlington, MA. This past May, I graduated from Colby College in Waterville, ME with a degree in Environmental Policy & Economics. Interestingly enough, my very first work experience in the environmental field ended up being the most relevant to my current position at Renew Boston. I was introduced to energy efficiency outreach during an internship with the nonprofit Cool Winchester, where I worked with a wonderful, close-knit team to reduce GHG emissions in the residential sector of Winchester, MA. I had no idea that what I learned at such a young age would pave the way for the opportunity to assist the City of Boston in preparing for the inevitable effects of climate change.

Over the next few years I completely immersed myself in a wide range of experiences covering many sectors in environmental conservation. Highlights include a five-month marine conservation field study in Bocas del Toro, Panama; another month doing the same in Guanacaste, Costa Rica; harbor port planning with the Urban Harbors Institute; research on human-wildlife conflict in South Sudan for African Parks; urban farm education with Mill City Grows in Lowell; and coastal conservation outreach with Save the Waves in Davenport, CA.

I have found tremendous value in examining fundamental environmental issues through the perspectives of different cultures, regions, and organizations, which is why I am incredibly excited to team up with the passionate and talented staff at Greenovate and Renew Boston so that I can soak up as much knowledge as I possibly can.

On the weekends I can be found at Renew Boston’s home energy efficiency workshops, searching for new surf breaks along the coast of the north shore and southern New Hampshire, or simply walking the streets of Boston. Feel free to reach out to me for a quick chat, whether it be about the free home energy visit & incentives available through Renew Boston’s partnership with Mass Save or the bright future of the Boston Celtics — I’m always interested in meeting new people.
